The Many Uses of Beeswax - How To Make Your Own Homemade Hand Cream, Lotion and Lip Balm Recipes

Beeswax comes from the honeycombs of honey bees.The honey bees produce beeswax in their hives to build their honeycombs. These honeycombs are where the bees store their honey and pollens. Baby bees are also raised in these honeycombs. The beeswax is mainly made up of fatty acids produced by the worker bees. Freshly produced beeswax is almost white in colour but it changes to a yellowish or brownish colour when mixed with pollens and honey in the honeycomb.

The beeswax is usually extracted when the beekeepers collect the honey from the honeycomb cells. These beeswax are often used in the production of cosmetics, skin care products, food, candle wax, polishes and lubricants.

You can buy beeswax online on eBay or from Amazon if you want to make your own skin care products at home. Making your own skin care products is also much cheaper than buying from the stores. One kilogram of beeswax can be used to make dozens of tubs of lip balm and hand cream at home.

Lip Balm Recipe

This is a basic recipe for making lip balm.

You will need 2½ teaspoons of grated beeswax, 7 teaspoons of sweet almond oil, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 capsule of vitamin E powder and 5 drops of essential oil of your favourite fragrance. You can also use other oils like olive oil, macadamia oil and avocado oils.

Heat the sweet almond oil, honey and beeswax in a double boiler. Stir gently until the beeswax is completely melted and turn to liquid. Remove from heat and add in the essential oil and vitamin E powder.

Mix well and quickly pour into lip balm containers or tubes. Leave them to cool to room temperature before putting the lid on the containers.

Rose Hand Cream Recipe

Here is a recipe for homemade hand cream anyone can make at home using natural ingredients.

You will need to use 1 cup of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of beeswax, 10 drops of rose essential oil and pink food colour (optional).

Heat the olive oil and beeswax in a double boiler. Stir until the beeswax is completely melted and turn to liquid. Remove from heat and add in the rose essential oil and food colour, if desired.

Mix well and quickly pour into a container. Leave it to cool to room temperature before putting the lid on the container.

This homemade hand cream stores well because olive oil has a stable shelf life.

You can also substitute the rose essential oil with other favourite essential oils like lavender, vanilla, lemon, etc.
