Monster cookies are easy to make and are perfect for Christmas. These monster cookies are surprisingly good looking enough to be wrapped as gifts. Being large and dense, the cookies store well and retain their moisture better than smaller cookies. These oversized cookies are appealing because of their size.

Instead of spending hours making Christmas cakes, have a go at baking monster cookies. It will only take up a fraction of your time to bake and they taste great, too. Almost everybody will be making Christmas cakes anyway, try to be different and make monster cookies instead. Family and friends will definitely appreciate them especially if they have been receiving numerous cakes from most of their own friends.

Here is how you can make those handsome looking chocolate chip monster cookies. First, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 2½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup chocolate buttons or chocolate chips

Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Next, add in egg, one at a time and mix well. Stir in vanilla essence. Sift in flour, baking soda and salt. Combine all the ingredients by stirring gently. Add in chocolate buttons (or chocolate chips) and stir until evenly distributed in the dough.

Preheat the oven to 150ºC. Line a few trays with baking paper.

Using a one-third measuring cup, drop a scoop of dough onto the baking tray. Space out the next dough about 10cm apart.

Bake one tray at a time in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer monster cookies to wire racks to cool. The cookies can be stored for up to four days in airtight jars at room temperature. Stored in the refrigerator, they will last for up to a month.

Wrap each cookie with coloured cellophane paper and decorate with ribbons.

randomcreative, I have tried monster cookies with M&Ms but can`t use the peanut butter because a few people I know are allergic to nuts.
